A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Dougherty County, including Albany, with residents urged to prepare immediately for hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes until October 10 at 1:15 AM UTC.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Dougherty County, including Albany, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 5:05 PM EDT. Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous conditions begin.
Wind speeds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are anticipated, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unanchored mobile homes, porches, awnings, and sheds is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Major flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and many structures may experience flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
