Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Dougherty County; Act Now
Dougherty County is under a Tropical Storm Warning, Flood Watch, and Tornado threat as of 11:05 AM EDT, requiring immediate action for wind, flooding, and tornado preparedness.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Dougherty County, including Albany, as of 11:05 AM EDT today, October 9th, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Tropical storm-force winds, with gusts up to 45 mph, are expected within the next 36 hours. Residents should complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.
Immediate action is required to protect property. Expect limited wind damage to carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot, potentially causing scattered power outages and making some roads impassable.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 3-6 inches is forecast, with locally higher amounts possible, leading to potential moderate flooding. Rivers and creeks may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Evacuations and rescues are possible in vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
Furthermore, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly.
