Alachua Police Ticket Campaign: Click It or Ticket May 31
The Alachua Police Department is joining a national seat belt enforcement campaign that runs through May 31. Officers will conduct increased patrols to cite drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts.
The "Click It or Ticket" campaign, coordinated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, focuses on evening and overnight hours, when 56 percent of unbuckled occupant deaths occur.
"Wearing your seat belt should be second nature every time you get in a vehicle," Chief Jesse Sandusky said. "One simple click can prevent serious injuries or save a life."
In 2023, 10,484 unbuckled occupants died in traffic crashes nationwide. Florida law requires seat belts for all vehicle occupants in front and back seats.
Police remind drivers to wear seat belts correctly: place the shoulder belt across the chest away from the neck and the lap belt across the hips rather than the stomach.
