Alachua K-9 Ramsey Earns Narcotics Detection Cert
Alachua Police K-9 Ramsey earned narcotics detection certification on May 28, expanding his patrol capabilities beyond tracking and apprehension work.
Officer Wetzel and Ramsey completed the certification through the Marion County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit under Sergeant Jay Nix. The two-month training followed their graduation from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's 480-hour K-9 Patrol Certification Course, which included tracking, apprehension, obedience, and search training.
Ramsey joined the Alachua Police Department through K9s United, a nonprofit that funds law enforcement K-9 programs across Florida. Sergeant Nix selected Ramsey for the department and retired from law enforcement the same day Ramsey completed his certification.
