Santa Fe High Student Arrested for Bomb Threat
A 14-year-old Santa Fe High School student faces a felony charge after telling a guidance counselor she had a bomb in her backpack Monday morning.
Amelia Tate-Wilson made the comment at approximately 9:15 a.m. on June 1 as she passed the school's front gate during morning duty. The counselor immediately reported the statement to school administration, which notified the School Resource Officer.
School officials removed Tate-Wilson from class and searched her backpack and person. They found no bomb, explosive device, or contraband. When questioned, Tate-Wilson said she intended the comment as a joke. A second student present confirmed hearing the remark and told investigators they had warned Tate-Wilson not to make such statements.
Tate-Wilson was arrested and charged with Threat to Bomb / False Report of Bomb, Explosive, Weapon of Mass Destruction under Florida Statute 790.163. She was also suspended from school.
The Alachua Police Department confirmed no active threat exists to the school. "Comments involving bombs, weapons, or violence are not jokes and can result in serious criminal consequences, even when no actual threat is found," said Officer Thomas Stanfield, the department's public information officer.
