Wind Advisory & Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Yuma
A Wind Advisory is in effect for Yuma from Sunday 2 AM to 5 PM MST, with south winds up to 50 mph gusts, alongside an Extreme Heat Warning until 8 PM MST tonight with temperatures up to 105 degrees.
Yuma residents should prepare for strong winds and extreme heat. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ has issued a Wind Advisory effective from 2 AM to 5 PM MST on Sunday, October 11. South winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.
This advisory means driving may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Unsecured outdoor objects could become airborne. Strong winds over desert areas may also reduce visibility due to blowing dust or sand. Use extra caution when driving.
Additionally, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening, October 9. Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures reaching 103 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. This poses a major heat risk.
To combat the heat, reschedule strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location and call 911 immediately for heat stroke. Consult county officials for information on public cooling shelters.
