Extreme Heat Warning for Yuma: Act Now to Stay Safe
Yuma is under an Extreme Heat Warning until 8:00 PM MST today, with temperatures up to 105 degrees, alongside a Wind Advisory for Sunday with gusts up to 50 mph, according to the NWS.
Yuma residents are under an Extreme Heat Warning, effective immediately until 8:00 PM MST this evening, October 9. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ reports dangerously hot conditions, with afternoon temperatures expected to reach 103 to 105 degrees. This constitutes a Major Heat Risk, with potential for heat cramps and heat exhaustion leading to heat stroke.
In addition to the heat, a Wind Advisory is in effect for Yuma from 2:00 AM to 5:00 PM MST on Sunday. South winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. These winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, and may cause light, unsecured objects to become airborne. Strong winds over desert areas could also reduce visibility due to blowing dust or sand.
The NWS advises taking immediate precautions. Reschedule strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If working outdoors, schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 911 immediately if someone is overcome by heat.
