Wind Advisory & Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Yuma
Yuma faces a Wind Advisory from Sunday 2 AM to 5 PM MST, with gusts up to 45 mph, and an Extreme Heat Warning until Friday 8 PM MST, with temperatures up to 105 degrees, according to the NWS.
Yuma residents are advised to prepare for a Wind Advisory and an Extreme Heat Warning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ. The Wind Advisory is in effect from 2 AM to 5 PM MST on Sunday, October 11. The Extreme Heat Warning is active until 8 PM MST on Friday, October 9.
The Wind Advisory forecasts south winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. These conditions can make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles, and may cause light, unsecured objects to become airborne. Strong winds over desert areas could also reduce visibility due to blowing dust or sand.
During the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures reaching 103 to 105 degrees. This poses a major heat risk, increasing the likelihood of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which can escalate to heat stroke.
Residents should take extra precautions, especially those working or spending time outdoors. The NWS recommends rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If overcome by heat, move to a cool, shaded location and call 911 for heat stroke, as it is an emergency. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for outdoor workers. Public cooling shelters may be available; consult county officials for details.
