Nassau County Data Center Committee Study
Nassau County commissioners established a Fact-Finding Committee to review data center development in the region, following a temporary moratorium on new projects.
The committee will hold public workshops featuring experts in conservation, water, power, planning, economics, and data center operations. Residents and property owners can submit comments digitally or speak at committee meetings.
The county imposed the moratorium under Ordinance No. 2026-044 for up to 12 months to evaluate environmental impacts, water and power demands, land use compatibility, infrastructure capacity, and economic effects. Commissioners want to develop policies that balance digital infrastructure needs with protection of natural resources and community character.
Florida Senate Bill 484 allows local governments to regulate data centers but prohibits outright bans. Any Nassau County regulations must withstand legal challenge.
The committee will prepare a report consolidating public testimony and research for the Board of County Commissioners. Commissioners may then direct additional studies, order staff to draft regulations, or schedule public hearings on potential land development rule changes.
