A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Flagstaff, AZ, impacting all of central and northern Arizona. The advisory is effective immediately, October 10, at 11:08 AM MST, and will remain in effect until 8:00 PM MST on Sunday, October 11.
South winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 45 to 55 mph. This strong wind activity can make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as RVs, campers, and tractor trailers. Residents are urged to use extra caution when traveling.
The affected areas include: Kaibab Plateau, Marble and Glen Canyons, Grand Canyon Country, Coconino Plateau, Yavapai County Mountains, Northeast Plateaus and Mesas Hwy 264 Northward, Chinle Valley, Chuska Mountains and Defiance Plateau, Little Colorado River Valley in Coconino County, Little Colorado River Valley in Navajo County, Little Colorado River Valley in Apache County, Western Mogollon Rim, Eastern Mogollon Rim, White Mountains, Northern Gila County, Yavapai County Valleys and Basins, Oak Creek and Sycamore Canyons, Black Mesa Area, and Northeast Plateaus and Mesas South of Hwy 264.
Impacts from these winds include unsecured objects being blown around, and the potential for tree limbs to snap, which could lead to power outages. Residents should secure any loose outdoor objects that could be damaged or become airborne due to the wind.
