Special Weather Statement: Strong Thunderstorm Approaching Yavapai Valleys

Residents in Yavapai County Valleys and Basins, particularly near Congress and Flores, should monitor weather conditions closely this morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) Flagstaff has issued a Special Weather Statement for a strong thunderstorm.
As of 5:02 AM MST, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm 7 miles southwest of Congress, moving southwest at 15 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph and half-inch size hail. The NWS advises that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, and minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.
This statement is effective immediately and expires at 5:30 AM MST. The impacted area includes Congress, Flores, and sections of Highway 93 (between mile markers 178 and 191) and State Route 71 (between mile markers 91 and 105). Be alert for threatening weather conditions during this time.
