Residents in five communities served by the Volusia County water utility are under a precautionary boil water notice after a temporary loss of water pressure. The advisory, issued Oct. 4, 2026, affects customers in Halifax Plantation, Sugar Mill, Fairchild Oaks, Plantation Oaks of Flagler, and Wexford Cove.
An electrical issue caused by inclement weather temporarily stopped pumping equipment, leading to a drop in water pressure. Volusia County utility crews restored the water system to normal operation, but the boil water notice remains in effect out of caution.
Affected residents should bring water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use. Utility officials also recommend discarding ice made by automatic ice makers during the period of low pressure or using bottled water.
The notice applies to all five communities, even though Sugar Mill, Fairchild Oaks, and Plantation Oaks of Flagler are in Flagler County but receive water from Volusia County. Wexford Cove spans both counties.
Volusia County will conduct bacteriological testing to confirm the water's safety. The notice will remain in effect until testing confirms the system meets all required standards. The county will notify customers when the advisory is lifted.
