Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Stone County; Prepare for Hazardous Winds

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Stone County by NWS Mobile AL, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds up to 45 mph and potential localized flooding, effective October 9 at 10:00 AM CDT.

Staff Writer

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Stone County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:00 AM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. Residents in Wiggins and surrounding areas should prepare for hazardous wind conditions, with peak gusts potentially reaching 45 mph.

Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Plan for limited wind damage, including potential harm to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Many large tree limbs may break, and some power and communication outages are possible. Act now to complete preparations before winds become hazardous.

While tornadoes are not expected, localized flooding rain remains a potential impact. Emergency plans should include the possibility of localized flooding from heavy rain. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings.

The NWS Mobile AL will expire this watch at 6:00 PM UTC today, October 9, 2026. For local information, contact Stone County EMA at 601-928-3077 or visit stonecountyms.gov/emergency-management. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
