Stone County is under a Tropical Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL today, October 9, at 3:55 PM CDT. This warning is in effect for areas including Wiggins and will remain active until October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC.
Residents are advised to complete preparations immediately as hazardous winds are expected. Peak wind forecasts are between 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Potential impacts include limited damage to unsecured lightweight objects, broken tree limbs, and some snapped or uprooted trees, particularly in areas with shallow roots. Isolated power and communications outages are possible, and a few roads may become impassable due to debris.
Localized flooding rain is also a concern. While no additional significant rainfall is forecast, emergency plans should include the potential for localized flooding. Flood waters could enter some structures, and rapid ponding of water may occur in underpasses and low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings.
The NWS indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected at this time. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur.
