Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Stone County: Prepare Now

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Stone County, including Wiggins, urging residents to complete preparations for tropical storm-force winds and possible localized flooding within the next 36 hours.

Staff Writer
10/09/2026 · Wiggins edition

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Stone County, including Wiggins, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:02 PM CDT. This warning indicates that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.

Residents should complete preparations now. Peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are possible. Anticipate limited damage to property, including porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could snap or uproot, especially in areas with shallow-rooted trees. Expect scattered power and communications outages, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.

While localized flooding rain is possible, no significant additional rainfall is forecast. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as localized flooding may prompt evacuations and cause small streams to overflow. Tornadoes are not expected.

For local information, contact Stone County EMA at 601-928-3077 or visit stonecountyms.gov/emergency-management. For storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob. This warning is set to expire on October 9, 2026, at 9:15 PM UTC.
