Tropical Storm Warning for Stone County: Prepare for Winds up to 45 mph

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Stone County until 3:00 AM CDT on October 10, with winds up to 45 mph and potential for localized flooding; residents should complete preparations now.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Stone County, effective immediately from 6:53 PM CDT on October 9, 2026, until 3:00 AM CDT on October 10, 2026, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL. Residents in Wiggins and throughout Stone County should act now to complete preparations for hazardous wind conditions.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. This poses a potential for wind speeds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway, as limited damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break, and some trees may snap or uproot. Scattered power and communication outages are also anticipated. A few roads may become impassable due to debris.

While no additional significant rainfall is forecast, there is a potential for localized flooding from heavy rain. Residents in vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed any flood watches and warnings. Minor flooding impacts could include swift currents in rivers and tributaries, swollen small streams, and localized ponding of water in underpasses and low-lying areas. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
