Westlake City Council Approves 2027 Holidays

The Westlake City Council has finalized its list of legal holidays for the upcoming year, during which city offices will be closed. The council passed Resolution No. 2026-21 in September 2026, making the holiday schedule effective immediately.

The approved schedule ensures city employees observe a set list of recognized holidays. Exhibit "A" of the resolution details the designated days, which include federal, state, and locally observed holidays.

Designated holidays include Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day (second Monday in October), Veterans Day (Nov. 11), and the Thanksgiving holiday (fourth Thursday and following Friday in November). City offices will also close on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. Further into the year, employees will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day (third Monday in January), Presidents Day (third Monday in February), and Good Friday (date varies between March 20 and April 23).

The schedule continues with Memorial Day (last Monday in May), Juneteenth (June 19), and Independence Day (July 4). Labor Day (first Monday in September) concludes the list of recognized holidays. The resolution also includes clauses repealing conflicting prior resolutions and ensuring the validity of the remaining provisions.

The City Council confirmed the preamble clauses, which outline the city's intent to designate legal holidays for office closures. This resolution officially notifies the public of days when City of Westlake offices will not be open for regular business.
