A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Wayne County, including Waynesboro, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This watch is effective from October 8 at 9:57 PM CDT and expires October 9 at 6:00 AM CDT. Residents in the affected areas should finalize preparations for hazardous wind and potential moderate flooding.

Forecasters anticipate peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property, tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches are expected, with locally higher totals, increasing the potential for moderate flooding. Evacuations and rescues are possible due to swollen rivers, creeks, and flooded low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time; however, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For local information, contact Wayne County EMA at 601-735-2185 or visit their Facebook page. For storm impacts, refer to NWS Mobile at www.weather.gov/mob.
