Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Wayne County: Prepare for Winds & Flooding
Wayne County is under a Tropical Storm Watch, issued today at 4:07 AM CDT, with residents advised to prepare for hazardous winds up to 45 mph and moderate flooding, particularly in Waynesboro.
Wayne County is now under a Tropical Storm Watch, issued at 4:07 AM CDT on October 9 by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. Residents, particularly in Waynesboro, should prepare for hazardous wind and moderate flooding beginning today, October 9, with the watch expiring at 7:15 AM CDT.
The NWS predicts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. There is a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete all property protection efforts immediately. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Limited impacts include potential damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are possible, especially on elevated roadways.
Approximately 1 inch of rainfall is expected, with a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Flood waters may enter some structures, and small streams and rivers could overflow. Driving conditions may become hazardous due to flooded roads and parking lots. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
