Mandel Community Trail Opens, Creating New Connection to Cleveland’s Lakefront 2.7-mile trail creates new off-road connection between E. 9th and E. 55th streets CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – Today, officials and community partners celebrated the opening of the Mandel Community Trail, a transformative 2.7-mile off-road connection along Cleveland’s east side lakefront between E. 9th and E. 55th streets. The new trail is a partnership between Cuyahoga County, which managed construction of the project, Cleveland Metroparks, which will manage and operate the trail, and the City of Cleveland. The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation provided a $5 million gift to Cleveland Metroparks for construction of the trail, complemented by $5.6 million in funding from the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) through the Federal Highway Administration’s Carbon Reduction Program and local match funds provided by Cuyahoga County and the City of Cleveland. “The Mandel Community Trail turns a missing link into a new doorstep to Cleveland’s lakefront,” said Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman. “It gives people a safe, off-road way to connect from neighborhoods to our lakefront, parks, marinas and other community destinations, and it shows what we can accomplish together through partnership around a shared vision for a more connected Cleveland and lakefront.” The 2.7-mile paved Mandel Community Trail completes a critical missing link of the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway, connecting to the existing trail from E. 55th Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The new trail travels along the north side of North Marginal Road and provides connections between downtown Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to lakefront destinations including E. 55th Street Marina, the Patrick S. Parker Community Sailing Center and Gordon Park. The project also includes significant trail improvements between E. 55th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. “The Mandel Community Trail is an important part of our broader vision for a connected greenway network that links neighborhoods, residents, and destinations across Cuyahoga County,” said Chris Ronayne, Cuyahoga County Executive. “By creating safe, accessible routes for walking and biking, we are expanding opportunities for people to reach the lakefront and ensure that our region’s natural and recreational assets are available to everyone.” The new trail provides safe, accessible access to the lakefront for people walking and bicycling from the St. Clair-Superior and Glenville neighborhoods and surrounding communities. Prior to the project, pedestrians and cyclists traveling along this portion of North Marginal Road were required to share the roadway with vehicles to reach lakefront destinations on Cleveland’s east side. The Mandel Community Trail also connects to University Circle, Doan Brook and the Shaker Lakes via the regional trail network. "The Mandel Community Trail will now provide Clevelanders access to their lakefront, to our parks and public spaces, and to the opportunities that make our city stronger. That is the kind of connectivity we are building through Cleveland ERA," said Mayor Justin M. Bibb. "This trail closes a critical gap on our east side and brings us one step closer to a Cleveland where every neighborhood has a clear path to our natural assets and to the rest of our city." The trail is part of a broader investment in Cleveland’s east side lakefront, where the Mandel Foundation has made a significant commitment to several transformational projects. Altogether, the Foundation has committed $21 million in support for the Mandel Community Trail and additional trail improvements, enhancements to the 48-acre portion of Gordon Park south of Interstate 90 between E. 72nd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Boathouse at the Patrick S. Parker Community Sailing Center. Enhancements to Gordon Park are underway following a robust public engagement process. “The Mandel brothers’ commitment to Cleveland was rooted in the belief that strong communities are built through long-term investments that benefit future generations,” said Dr. Jehuda Reinharz, President & CEO of the Mandel Foundation. “We are proud to support a project that connects more residents to Cleveland’s lakefront while contributing to the long-term vitality of the city’s east side neighborhoods.” The Mandel Community Trail was identified as a critical regional link in the Cuyahoga Greenways Plan, a collaborative effort to envision, plan and implement trail connections throughout Cuyahoga County that improve mobility, health, well-being and economic vitality. NOACA helped guide implementation of the regionally significant route along the Lake Erie waterfront. “The Mandel Community Trail fills a critical gap in the Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway and demonstrates how strategic transportation planning can turn a vision into reality,” said Grace Gallucci, Executive Director and CEO of the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). “The need for this missing link was identified through planning studies conducted under NOACA’s Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative (TLCI), helping to prioritize NOACA’s commitment of $5,684,048 in Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) funds. The trail is a prime example of NOACA’s role as the region’s metropolitan planning organization—identifying critical transportation needs, prioritizing investments to address those needs, and helping move projects from planning to implementation. The result is a more connected, accessible, and safer Northeast Ohio.” The Mandel Community Trail is part of continued investment to improve access to Cleveland’s lakefront and connect neighborhoods with parks, recreation, cultural destinations and other community assets. Honoring Conservation Champions: Madison SWCD’s Election and Appreciation Day Highlights

Steve Davis and Samual Yoder were elected as Supervisors at the Madison Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD). Their three-year term will begin on January 1, 2027. The election period ran from August 12 to September 10, 2026, with voting available during the Madison SWCD Customer Appreciation Day on September 10th. The Madison SWCD Customer Appreciation Day celebrated local land stewardship achievements. The event took place at the USDA Service Center/Madison County Engineer Building in London, Ohio. Staff from the Madison County Engineers, Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, and Central Township Fire Station, helped with demonstrations. The rain held off, allowing attendees to enjoy fishing, a dry hydrant demonstration, touch-a-truck activities, food and fellowship. Approximately 80 people attended, and two conservation awards were presented. The first award recognized the Top Rank Envirothon Team. The Envirothon is an outdoor, academic competition in Southwest Ohio for high school students that tests their knowledge in five areas: Forestry, Aquatics, Current Environmental Issues, Soils, and Wildlife. The Soil and Water Conservation honored the Madison-Plains High School Team - Avery Alkire, Kastin Little, Elizabeth Hammond, Brooklyn Brown, and Jaliyah Robinson - for achieving the highest rank among Madison County teams. Their advisor, Serenity Kirts Pickell, accepted the award on their behalf. The second award was presented to Ramona Porter and Dale Sheridan for being Outstanding Cooperators of the Year. Ramona Porter restored a twenty-acre wetland on her farm in 2026, attracting waterfowl and other wildlife. She collaborated with her tenant farmers to utilize cover crops, has repaired the gullies, planted native grass buffer strips to prevent pesticide drift and capture any sediment from runoff into the creek. Dale Sheridan, a corn and soybean farmer, utilized the H2Ohio Program to install practices that reduce soil erosion and improve water quality. By following a nutrient management plan based on the Tri-State Fertilizer Recommendations, he prevents excess nutrients from entering into the creeks and groundwater. He also plants cover crops to protect soil during winter, which helps sustain microorganisms and build organic matter. Lastly, he permanently protected one of his farms with an agricultural easement through the Clean Ohio Program. These outstanding individuals received a sign as a token of the district’s gratitude for their stewardship and commitment to conservation. The evening concluded with a free raffle for fishing poles. AG Wilson Honors Law Enforcement, Spotlights OPOTA Training at Annual Symposium

(DAYTON, Ohio) — Attorney General Andy Wilson joined peace officers this week at the 2026 Law Enforcement Training Symposium (LETS) to honor their achievements and thank them for their dedicated service to Ohio’s communities. “You give a piece of your soul, your heart and who you are to the people you serve and protect,” Wilson said. “You do it because your sense of duty and service calls you to help people. We can never repay you for what you give us.” The annual conference, held for the first time in Dayton, continued setting a new standard for Ohio law enforcement training. It is hosted by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy, a division of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, to equip officers with the tools and knowledge they need to serve their communities effectively. The symposium featured more than 50 workshops presented by experts from Ohio and beyond. Among those sessions were keynote presentations by Jim Schmidt, stepfather of Gabby Petito and board member of the Gabby Petito Foundation; Kara Robinson Chamberlain, a survivor advocate; and Harry Trombitas, a retired FBI special agent. This year’s event, held Sept. 13-15, again offered officers the convenience of completing their mandatory continuing professional training (CPT) on-site in one location, reducing time away from their communities. On Monday evening, Wilson joined other leaders in Ohio law enforcement for an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding service and achievements in public safety. See the affected products Julia GomezUSA TODAY Sept. 21, 2026, 8:56 a.m. ET Bread and pizza mixes, as well as all-purpose flour labeled as gluten-free, were recalled due to undeclared wheat gluten, according to the Food and Drug Administration. GF Blends recalled the gluten-free flour and mixes sold nationwide through online retailers, a news release on the FDA website stated. The products were made with plantain flour from PMF Global. The flour was labeled and certified as gluten-free, but third-party testing found that the flour and products manufactured with it contained gluten. The FDA allows products with less than 20 parts per million of gluten to be labeled gluten-free, according to the Celiac Disease Foundation. However, per the news release, the levels of gluten in the bread mix exceeded the FDA's limit for gluten-free labeling. "People who have celiac disease or a severe gluten intolerance run the risk of adverse health effects or allergic reactions if they consume these products," the news release stated. No adverse reactions related to the recalled products have been reported. Here's what to know. What gluten-free products were recalled? Rambo Memorial Health Center Air Conditioner Program We have limited air conditioners available each year for residents with a respiratory diagnosis and a prescription from their physician. Air conditioners are helpful to those who have breathing problems during hot and/or humid weather. This service is available after May 1st of each year. Residents are eligible who have not received one from us or Community Action in the last 3 years. Qualifications + Financial Assistance Program + Contact Us + TO QUALIFY YOU MUST: Be a Muskingum County Resident Have a respiratory diagnosis (sleep apnea is not valid for this program) Have a prescription from your health care provider stating: 1. Your diagnosis 2. That you would benefit from the use of an air conditioner Meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines of 200% or less TO APPLY YOU MUST: Visit us at 711 Main Stree between the hours of 8 AM and 4 PM, Monday-Friday Bring proof of all income for everyone in the household (one of the following) W-2 forms Bank statements SSI statements, SSDI statements 1 month of paycheck stubs PLEASE BE AWARE: You must not have received an air conditioner from Rambo or from Community Action in the last 3 years Limit 1 per household per 3 year period Air conditioner units are 5000 BTUs, large enough for 1 small room. Clinic Physician Services Home Clinic Physician Services Providers Dr. Megan Barnes Medical Director Rambo Memorial Health Center Clinic Physician Services Clinic physician services are provided one day a week by Dr. Megan Barnes. Dr. Barnes completed her internal medicine residency at Ohio State University in 2011 and has been practicing medicine since that time. Dr. Barnes and her husband Dr. Sean Barnes reside in Zanesville with their four children. If you are a Muskingum County resident with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, asthma, occupational lung disease, tuberculosis, a positive TB skin test or any other lung problem you can be seen by our physician. There is no charge for this service if you are a Muskingum County resident. There is a $70 charge for out-of-county residents. Patients with chronic lung diseases are seen on a continuing basis while those with tuberculosis are seen until they are determined to be cured.
