Tropical Storm Warning Issued for North Walton: Act Now!

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for North Walton, including De Funiak Springs, as of 5:03 AM EDT on October 8. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. This warning is in effect until 1:15 PM UTC today.

Residents in affected areas must act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin. The National Weather Service Tallahassee forecasts peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph, but warns of potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant impacts are expected, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes, as well as snapped trees and impassable roads due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are likely.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to a potential for major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely, and floodwaters may enter structures and cover escape routes. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately. The tornado threat has increased, with a potential for several tornadoes. Be prepared to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
