A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for South Walton, including Santa Rosa Beach, Sandestin, and Freeport, effective immediately. The National Weather Service Tallahassee warns of a life-threatening storm surge with potential inundation of 4-7 feet above ground, and possibly greater than 6 feet, from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts should be completed now.
Tropical Storm force winds of 35-45 mph with gusts up to 70 mph are expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Significant wind damage is possible, including to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Prepare for widespread power outages and impassable roads. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially causing major flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and many roads could become impassable. Additionally, several tornadoes are possible, with a few potentially intense.
