WASHINGTON COUNTY, AL — Residents in Chatom and Millry are urged to take immediate protective actions following a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL at 6:53 AM CDT on October 9, 2026. This warning is effective until 3:00 PM UTC today.

A Flood Watch is in effect for the area, with a potential for major flooding rain. Peak rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely, and residents are strongly advised to consider protective actions, especially if in flood-vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to do so could result in serious injury or loss of life.

Wind gusts up to 45 mph are anticipated, with sustained winds of 15-25 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect many large tree limbs to break, with some trees potentially snapping or uprooting. Scattered power and communication outages are also a possibility. Residents should complete all remaining property protection efforts as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information, contact Washington County EMA at 251-847-2668 or visit www.weather.gov/mob.
