A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Washington County, including Chatom and Millry, effective immediately as of October 8 at 6:56 AM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. This warning is set to expire at 3:00 PM UTC today.

Residents in affected areas should act now to complete all preparations. Dangerous wind speeds of 58 to 73 mph are possible, with peak wind forecasts of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. This could lead to significant damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, as well as downed trees and power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway.

Moderate flooding rain is also expected, with peak rainfall amounts of 3-6 inches, and locally higher amounts possible. This may prompt evacuations and rescues, with flood waters entering structures and impacting roads. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS also indicates a somewhat favorable situation for tornadoes. Emergency plans should include the potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
