Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Chatom, Millry: Prepare for Dangerous Winds, Major Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Chatom and Millry, with residents urged to prepare for dangerous winds up to 73 mph and potential major flooding, according to the NWS Mobile.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Chatom and Millry, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, issued the warning today, October 8, 2026, at 4:04 PM CDT, expiring at 12:15 AM CDT on October 9, 2026.
Residents in Chatom and Millry should plan for dangerous tropical storm force winds, with peak gusts up to 45 mph, and a potential for sustained winds of 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes, as well as downed trees and impassable roads due to debris. Power and communications outages are also expected. All efforts to protect life and property must be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. The NWS warns of potential major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may rapidly overflow their banks, leading to dangerous conditions on small streams, creeks, canals, and ditches. Floodwaters could enter numerous structures, making some uninhabitable. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road and bridge closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
