URGENT: Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Inland Wakulla; Major Flooding, Tornadoes Likely
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Inland Wakulla, including Crawfordville and Wakulla Springs, with an immediate threat of major flooding and numerous tornadoes through this evening. Residents should prepare for potential evacuations and be ready to shelter quickly.
CRAWFORDVILLE, FL – Residents of Inland Wakulla, including Crawfordville and Wakulla Springs, are advised of an immediate Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL today, October 9, at 11:05 AM EDT. This warning remains effective until 7:15 PM UTC today.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for an additional 4-8 inches of rain, and localized higher amounts. This rainfall could lead to major flooding, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter numerous structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road and bridge closures anticipated.
The NWS also indicates a very favorable situation for many tornadoes. Residents should be prepared to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. Numerous tornadoes can cause widespread damage, power loss, and communication failures. Sturdy buildings may experience roof and wall failures, and mobile homes could be obliterated.
While peak winds are forecast at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, sustained winds should remain below tropical storm force. No storm surge inundation is forecast, but rough surf, coastal erosion, and life-threatening rip currents are possible. Residents should monitor forecasts closely and heed all instructions from local officials.
