A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, issued October 9 at 11:05 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Residents in these areas are advised to shelter immediately against life-threatening storm surge.

The NWS forecasts a potential for 4-6 feet of storm surge inundation above ground, with the window of concern lasting through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in safe shelters. Do not venture outside.

An additional 4-8 inches of rain is expected, with locally higher amounts, leading to a Flood Watch. Major rainfall flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The tornado threat has increased significantly. The situation is very favorable for numerous tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. The warning is effective until 7:15 PM UTC today. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee or Wakulla County Emergency Management.
