Storm Surge Warning Issued for Coastal Wakulla, Life-Threatening Flooding Possible
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Wakulla, including Saint Marks and Panacea, with life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground possible through Saturday morning; residents must shelter in place and heed flood and tornado watches.
Coastal Wakulla residents, particularly in Saint Marks and Panacea, must shelter against life-threatening storm surge flooding of greater than 3 feet above ground. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued a Storm Surge Warning on October 9 at 10:57 PM EDT, effective through Saturday morning, October 10 at 7:00 AM UTC. Peak storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible in surge-prone areas.
Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Residents are advised to remain sheltered in a safe location and not to venture outside as potential impacts from the main surge event are unfolding.
Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, leading to potential major flooding. Emergency plans should account for major flooding, and evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. A Tornado Watch is also in effect, with conditions favorable for several tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
