Wind Advisory Issued: Secure Loose Items, Prepare for Gusts Up to 50 MPH

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 6:00 AM HST Monday for parts of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, and the Big Island, with gusts up to 50 mph expected; secure loose items and prepare for possible power outages.

Residents across portions of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, and the Big Island should secure loose outdoor items and be prepared for potential power outages due to a Wind Advisory now in effect. The National Weather Service (NWS) Honolulu has issued this advisory until 6:00 AM HST Monday, September 28.

East winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 50 mph. Affected areas include Oahu's North Shore, Central Oahu, East Honolulu, Honolulu Metro, and Koolau Leeward; Maui Windward West, Maui Leeward West, Maui Central Valley North, Maui Central Valley South, Kipahulu, and South Haleakala; Molokai Windward, Molokai Southeast, Molokai North, Molokai West, and Molokai Leeward South; and Kohala and Big Island North on the Big Island.

These strong winds can cause shingles to tear off, tree branches to fall, and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. The NWS advises residents to watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving, ensure tents and awnings are secured or taken down, and prepare for possible power outages.
