A Wind Advisory is in effect for Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau until Sunday at 6:00 PM HST, with east winds up to 35 mph and gusts to 55 mph; residents should secure loose items and prepare for potential power outages.
A Wind Advisory has been issued for Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau, effective immediately until Sunday, September 27, at 6:00 PM HST. East winds are expected to reach speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Honolulu HI issued the advisory, highlighting that the strongest winds are anticipated on Oahu, particularly over and downwind of terrain.
Residents in affected areas, including Niihau, Kauai Southwest, Kauai Mountains, Waianae Coast, Oahu North Shore, Olomana, Central Oahu, Waianae Mountains, Kauai North, Kauai East, Kauai South, East Honolulu, Honolulu Metro, Ewa Plain, Koolau Windward, and Koolau Leeward, should take precautions.
These strong winds can cause significant impacts, such as tearing off shingles, knocking down tree branches, and blowing away unsecured items like tents and awnings. Drivers of high-profile vehicles may experience difficulty steering.
The NWS advises residents to watch out for falling tree branches when walking or driving. Ensure all tents and awnings are securely fastened or taken down to prevent damage. Community members should also prepare for potential power outages.
