A Valrico man faces multiple charges after allegedly threatening deputies with a knife and resisting arrest Sept. 24, 2026. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at a home on the 11000 block of Clay Pit Road regarding an adult male threatening family members or himself.
Deputies encountered Jarrett Brooks, 41, in his bedroom at approximately 10:18 a.m. The Sheriff's Office reported Brooks refused to cooperate and threatened to kill the deputies. He then reportedly kicked one deputy in the chest and attempted to disarm another by kicking at a Taser.
Brooks then allegedly grabbed a knife from beside his bed and lunged at deputies. Deputies deployed Tasers, and Brooks dropped the knife. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Brooks faces charges including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer with violence, and resisting an officer without violence. He was also placed under Baker Act provisions and transported to Orient Road Jail.
Sheriff Chad Chronister commended deputies for their handling of the situation. Brooks has a criminal history including charges for second-degree murder and DUI dating back to 2013.
The investigation is active. The Public Affairs Office will release Brooks' booking photo when available.
