Health Insurance The City of Bethel offers our employees a comprehensive health plan through Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska. City employees pay only 6% of the insurance premium, which is a fraction of what most other employers require. Employee's Monthly Contribution $69.92 for Employee $159.46 for Employee and Spouse $132.11 for Employee and Children $221.69 for an Entire Family Annual Leave and Holidays City of Bethel employees accrue annual leave (Personal Time Off, or PTO) beginning with their first pay period. The amount of PTO is accelerated based on years of service. New employees earn 26 days in their first year and 35 days a year by year five Utility Benefit Full-time employees receive water, sewer, and garbage services for only $133 per month. Retirement Employees are enrolled in the Alaska Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) upon hire. The City matches a portion of the employees' contribution into this retirement plan. In addition, employees have the opportunity to enhance their retirement savings through salary Deferred Compensation on a pre- or post-tax basis.
