A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Thomaston in Upson County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 2:52 PM EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA warns residents to act now to complete preparations, as hazardous wind, moderate flooding, and the potential for several tornadoes are anticipated.

Residents should expect peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property and tree limbs is possible, with scattered power and communication outages.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain forecast, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding could prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued.

The Tropical Storm Watch is set to expire on October 8 at 11:00 PM UTC. For more information on family emergency plans, visit ready.gov/hurricanes. Local weather conditions and forecasts are available at weather.gov/atlanta.
