Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Upson County: Prepare for Severe Weather
Upson County is under a Tropical Storm Watch with potential for severe winds, moderate flooding, and tornadoes; residents should complete preparations immediately and heed all warnings.
Upson County, including Thomaston, is now under a Tropical Storm Watch, effective from 4:43 AM EDT today, October 9, until 12:45 PM EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA has issued this alert, urging residents to complete preparations immediately.
Forecasters anticipate winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should secure outdoor objects and prepare for limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and sheds. Scattered power and communication outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and low-lying areas are at risk of rapid inundation. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action can result in serious injury or loss of life.
Additionally, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with a potential for some to be intense. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. For more information, visit weather.gov/atlanta and ready.gov/hurricanes.
