A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Pike County, including Troy, effective immediately as of October 9 at 9:56 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning will remain in effect until approximately 6:00 AM UTC on October 10.
Residents in Pike County should prepare for dangerous conditions. Winds are forecast to be equivalent to strong tropical storm force, with peak gusts reaching 55-70 mph and up to 90 mph. These dangerous winds are expected to continue until late Saturday morning. All last-minute efforts to protect life and property should be complete. A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, potentially causing major flooding. Major rainfall flooding may prompt numerous evacuations and rescues, with rivers and tributaries potentially overflowing their banks. Flood waters can enter many structures, making streets and parking lots hazardous.
