TROY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Pike County, including Troy, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued the warning today, October 9, 2026, at 6:57 PM CDT. The warning remains in effect until October 10, 2026, at 3:00 AM UTC.

Residents should shelter from dangerous winds, as peak wind gusts of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected until late Saturday morning. Potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph is also present. All last-minute efforts to protect life and property should now be complete. The area is subject to significant wind damage.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of 2-4 inches expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This presents a potential for major flooding, with evacuations and rescues likely. Emergency plans should include potential major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

Furthermore, the situation is favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several tornadoes. Stay within your shelter and remain informed. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
