A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Thomasville, effective October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and the potential for several tornadoes.
THOMASVILLE – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Thomasville, effective October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT. Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous wind, potential moderate flooding, and the possibility of multiple tornadoes.
Peak winds are forecast at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the NWS warns of potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and some power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and roads could become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
This Tropical Storm Watch is set to expire on October 9 at 1:30 AM UTC. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee or Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
