THOMASVILLE, GA – October 8, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Thomasville, effective immediately. Residents should take immediate action to prepare for potential hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical storm conditions are possible within the specified area within the next 48 hours. The watch was issued at 11:05 PM EDT on October 8th and expires at 7:15 AM UTC on October 9th. Peak winds are forecast to be 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the NWS indicates a potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured objects, large tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is anticipated, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and some structures could experience flooding. Driving conditions may become hazardous, leading to road closures.
