URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Flood Warning for Coastal Taylor
Coastal Taylor County, including Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee, faces an immediate and extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening inundation of 4-6 feet possible, prompting urgent calls for evacuation and flood preparations, alongside threats of flooding rain and tornadoes.
Coastal Taylor County, including Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee, is under an immediate and extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, effective October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT. Residents are urged to complete all evacuation efforts and flood preparations now, as conditions are expected to become unsafe.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible between Friday morning and Saturday morning. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts are anticipated, including damage to coastal buildings, weakened escape routes, major beach erosion, and damage to marine structures.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential moderate flooding. Be prepared for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A significant threat of several tornadoes has also been identified. Have plans ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued for your area. While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (20-30 mph with gusts to 35 mph), gusts may still occur. Keep informed of any additional weather alerts.
