Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Butler County

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Butler County, bringing potential for hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and tornadoes, with residents urged to complete preparations immediately.

Residents of Butler County are advised to finalize preparations as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective October 8 at 9:16 PM EDT. This watch will remain in effect until October 9 at 5:30 AM UTC.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property and tree limbs is possible, with scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain predicted, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area.

The NWS indicates a favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
