A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Taylor County, effective immediately, with hazardous winds, moderate flooding, and tornado potential; residents must complete preparations now.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Taylor County, specifically impacting Butler, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA issued the warning today, October 9, at 5:16 PM EDT, expiring tomorrow, October 10, at 1:30 AM UTC.

Residents should act now to complete preparations as hazardous winds are expected. Peak wind gusts could reach 45 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39-57 mph. Prepare for limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, potential power outages, and impassable roads due to debris.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Additional rainfall of 3-6 inches is forecast, with locally higher amounts, creating a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a potential for significant impacts, including considerable damage and power loss. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter.
