A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Taylor County, including Butler, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, GA, issued the watch today, October 9, at 4:43 AM EDT, and it is set to expire at 12:45 PM UTC on the same day. Residents are urged to complete all preparations now before hazardous wind conditions arrive.

Forecasters anticipate winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts, posing a significant risk of moderate flooding. Residents in vulnerable areas should consider protective actions, and heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few potentially intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. Those in manufactured homes should prepare to relocate to safe shelter.
