Tampa Summer Camps 2024: 7,000 Youth Enrolled
Tampa Parks & Recreation launched its summer programming Tuesday, enrolling more than 7,000 children in camps running through Aug. 8. The department hired over 400 seasonal employees to staff the programs, which offer instruction in sports, dance, gymnastics, swimming and theater.
The free Stay & Play teen program operates seven nights a week from 6 to 11 p.m. at nine locations across the city. The program drew more than 13,000 participants last summer.
Russell Cole, a University of Florida student, returned for his third summer as a Recreation Leader at Riverfront Recreation Center. Amahj Malphus, 16, participated in Stay & Play for two years before joining the seasonal staff. He played basketball and kickball at the program.
Openings remain in eight specialty sports camps, including basketball, flag football and multi-sports. Parents can register at tampa.gov/summer-camp or call (813) 274-5132.
