TALLADEGA – Residents in Talladega and Sylacauga should immediately begin preparations as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL, effective at 1:19 AM CDT on October 9, and expiring at 9:30 AM CDT on October 9. This watch indicates tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.

High winds are anticipated, with peak forecasts of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 45 mph, posing a limited threat of damage to unanchored structures, trees, and roadway signs. Scattered power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete preparations before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, bringing a potential for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.

There is also a potential for a few tornadoes. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safer location. Be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. For more information and preparedness tips, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
