Tropical Storm Warning for Talladega: Prepare for High Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Talladega and Sylacauga, urging residents to prepare immediately for high winds up to 55 mph, potential damage, and significant flooding with an additional 1-3 inches of rain.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Talladega and Sylacauga, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. Residents are urged to complete preparations now as hazardous winds and significant flooding are anticipated.
The NWS predicts peak winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. This could lead to damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored structures, as well as broken tree limbs and some downed trees. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. Driving conditions may become hazardous, particularly on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could swell, and small streams may overflow their banks. Floodwaters could enter some structures, and several areas may experience rapid inundation in low-lying spots. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The warning was issued at 4:20 PM CDT on October 9th and is set to expire at 12:30 AM UTC on October 10th. Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
