A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Talladega and Sylacauga, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. The warning was issued October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT and expires October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC.

Residents in Talladega and Sylacauga should complete preparations now as hazardous winds are expected. Peak wind gusts could reach 55 mph, with sustained winds of 20-30 mph. This could lead to limited damage to carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with broken tree limbs and some power outages. Drivers should be aware of potentially impassable roads due to debris, especially in urban or heavily wooded areas, and hazardous conditions on bridges.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for the area, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible, and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is a potential risk, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Do not drive through flooded roadways. Rivers and smaller waterways may quickly overspill their banks. Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and preparedness tips, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
