Allen Street, Sylva, NC (45906717324)
This house is located on Allen Street in my hometown of Sylva, North Carolina. Though the date of construction of this ramshackle Folk Victorian-style house is listed as 1920, I see many signs that it could be older, possibly dating back to the late 19th Century, with the date of 1920 coming from when the porch and dormers were added, which have a decidedly more early 20th Century Craftsman-style look. If it is the case that the house is older, the building would have been constructed originally

Cherry Street, Sylva, NC (31689522927)
This charming craftsman-style bungalow sits along Cherry Street at the bottom of Sunrise Park in my hometown of Sylva, North Carolina. Constructed circa 1940, the wood-frame house features both four-over-one and three-over-three windows, as well as an exposed brick chimney, trapezoid-shaped dormer, and a unique green shingle roof. The house also is only one of two homes I have come across in my travels with the letter P prominently displayed in a contrasting material on the chimney, with the oth

Civil War Memorial, Jackson County Courthouse, Sylva, NC (50550898758)
This is the Jackson County Courthouse and Public Library complex that stands prominently atop a hill at the end of Main Street in my hometown of Sylva, North Carolina. Constructed in 1913-14, the courthouse was built as a copy of the Madison County Courthouse in nearby Marshall, North Carolina, and was designed by the firm of Smith and Carrier and built with funds from local industrialist and philanthropist C.J. Harris. The third courthouse to serve Jackson County, it was the first of the courth
