ST. JOHNS, FL – Residents in southeastern St. Johns County are advised to seek immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Jacksonville.
The warning is in effect until 6:00 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026. At 5:28 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Butler Beach, approximately 7 miles south of Saint Augustine, moving north at 10 mph.
The primary hazard is 60 mph wind gusts, which radar has indicated. The National Weather Service warns that damage to roofs, siding, and trees is expected.
Areas impacted include Saint Augustine Beach, Saint Augustine Shores, Butler Beach, Saint Augustine South, Crescent Beach, and Dupont Center.
For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Remain alert for a possible tornado; tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado, go at once into a basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
