A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL, warning of a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout near Vilano Beach, or Saint Augustine. This alert is effective immediately and expires at 5:45 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026.

At 5:16 PM EDT, radar indicated this storm moving north at 20 mph, posing a hazard of landspouts and wind gusts up to 50 mph. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible, and gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. If you are outdoors, seek shelter inside a building immediately.

Affected areas include Saint Augustine, World Golf Village, Saint Augustine Beach, Marineland, Vilano Beach, South Ponte Vedra, Crescent Beach, Saint Augustine Shores, Butler Beach, and Saint Augustine South, encompassing Inland Flagler, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Northern Inland St. Johns, Southern Inland St. Johns, and Western St. Johns counties.

Torrential rainfall is also expected, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
