SLIDELL, LA – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southeast St. Tammany, including Slidell, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans. The warning, issued on October 9 at 4:00 PM CDT, highlights a life-threatening storm surge through Saturday morning.
Residents in surge-prone areas should remain sheltered in a safe location. The NWS forecasts a potential for 3-5 feet of storm surge inundation above ground. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Do not venture outside.
While wind speeds are expected to remain below tropical storm force (15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph), conditions may still be gusty. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected, and community officials are assessing existing impacts. There is no additional significant rainfall forecast, and tornadoes are not expected. This warning is effective until October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC.
